Nominate a Site for a City of boston Historic Marker

Thank you for your interest and participation in the City of Boston’s Historic Marker Program.

The City of Boston’s Historic Marker Program aims to broaden public memory by commemorating a wide span of experiences and accomplishments throughout Boston’s history to reinforce a legacy and future of belonging.

Historic markers have the ability to intrigue, inspire, and empower with stories of courage, cleverness, generosity, and determination. They quietly hold space on our city streets for the history we need to remember, both good and bad. They remind us that we have the same revolutionary potential as those who lived here before us. By nominating a site for a historic marker, you are contributing to writing a fuller story of Boston’s past.

Nominations will be reviewed annually by a panel of historians and community leaders. 10 new markers will be selected for installation each year. For more information, please visit https://www.boston.gov/departments/historic-preservation
